ABOUT ME!
My name is Danielle Bouchard. I am originally from Québec and my first language is French. I have a Bachelor's Degree in English Studies with a specialty in teaching E.S.L and a Professional Teaching Certificate in teaching French Immersion.
I have been employed by the Sooke School District since October, 2001. I was a Teacher-on-Call for just over two years before starting my full-time career as a French Immersion Teacher in September, 2004. In 2003, I have taught grade 1 at John Stubbs Memorial (the old school) for a period of 6 months. After that, I have started my full-time career at École Poirier Elementary where I have taught grades 2 to 4 for over 11 years.
I would like to mention that at age 18, I have joined the Canadian Armed Forces Naval Reserves while pursuing my education. I first started as an Admistrative Clerk, then became a Naval Communicator. I have served both full-time and part-time until 2005. I am now retired, but am on the Supplementary Reserve List. My late father was a retired Chief Warren Officer from the 22nd Regiment, and my sister is a retired Petty Officer 2nd Class who served in the Naval Reserves as a Naval Communicator. The reason why I am mentioning this is because, at École John Stubbs, many of our students come from military families. It is therefore important that you know that I have a good understanding of what military life entails, and that I can empathize or relate to some of the difficulties that members of a military family can face when their loved one(s) is or are away for long periods of time.
As a teacher, I am very organized, tidy, structured and strict when I need to be. I also have a good sense of humor and like to joke around with my students when appropriate to do so. I have high expectations of my students and will always push them to believe in themselves and do their very best. Teaching good work habits and good values is important to me, as it teaches students how to be good role models and good citizens at school and in their community. I use various approaches in my teaching, as I try to adapt my teaching to the needs of individual students. I also like to use technology in the classroom to make learning more fun and engaging for my students.
Finally, I am very excited to begin this new school year at École John Stubbs and I am looking forward to getting to know my students and their family! Please do not hesitate to contact me whenever you have questions or concerns. I will always do my very best to reply as soon as I can.
Best regards,
Mme Bouchard
