Dear parents/Guardians,
Here is an overview of what your child is learning in class at this time:
French Language Arts:
- We are finishing a little review activity booklet about school (vocabulary, picture word associations, spelling, etc.)
- In October, we will start a little booklet about the Alphabet (Review of the vowels and consonants.) We will also learn how to place words in alphabetical order in order to build our skills to look up words in the dictionary.
Journal Writing - In October, I will also start modelling journal writing so that the students can start directed journal writing and eventually do entries on their own.
Phonetics
- In September, we have learned and practiced words that contained the sound "oi" and "ou" in French.
-In October, we will learn about the sounds "on", "eu", "o" and "in."
Reading
- Daily Reading Bag (Read your book, copy a sentence, do a drawing and color it.
- Story read by the teacher once or twice a week.
Math
- We are learning how to write, say and recognize our numbers from 1 to 100.
- We are also doing the calendar every day.
- In October, we will learn about odd and even numbers.
Social Studies
- We are learning about mapping. We are learning the cardinal directions, the essentials elements that need to be on a map in order to understand it, how to read a map and how to make a simple map.
- We are also learning the differences between a map and a globe (the globe is divided into hemispheres, there is a North and a South Pole and there is an imaginary line called the equator that divides the two hemispheres.)
Other
Restitution - The students are learning the difference between a want and a need. They are learning what their basic survival needs are (to eat, drink, have clothing on their back, sleep and the need to have a shelter.) They are also learning about important needs that they have as human beings (to have fun, to have freedom, to have power and to belong.) We will be working in a little activity booklet where students will identify examples for each one of those needs and they will also identify which need is stronger than others for them.
Later on, the students will learn about the Zones of Regulations (green, blue, red and yellow.) This is a framework design to promote self-regulation and emotional control. Please, highlight the link below and right click on the option "Go to the link below to have access to the Zones of Regulation website and for more info.
